Looking back, could you have ever guessed how successful both would be? The book spent 36 weeks on the bestseller list and the film was nominated for two Oscars. You published Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café in 1987 and the film came out in 1991. We spoke with Flagg about the anniversary of the film and her latest book, The Whole Town’s Talking, which comes out this week.
